Expression Web 2 (Includes Software Assurance)
Expression Web 2 builds on and improves the Web authoring technologies of FrontPage, which Microsoft no longer sells but continues to support. Although Expression Web is geared toward professional designers, task panes and menus help beginning users build Web pages without knowing any markup or server code. More advanced creative professionals can build Web sites that fully support Web standards such as Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML), cascading style sheets (CSS), Extensible Markup Language (XML), and Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT).
Expression Web can be used to edit the existing page content of Web sites created in any version of FrontPage. However, FrontPage sites using technologies that have been superseded will have to be adapted to the new technologies.
An example of a new technology is the ASP.NET Web application framework, which is supported by an extensive toolbox in the design interface. Version 2 supports ASP.NET 3.5. Developers can preview ASP.NET and PHP pages without installing a separate development server or having to upload to the site.
Version 2 adds tools and support for PHP, AJAX, and Silverlight. It also allows Adobe Photoshop files to be imported with layer control and updates to be reimported with retained settings.
Expression Web supports the accessibility standards of WCAG and Section 508 (29 U.S.C. 794d) and includes built-in accessibility checkers for verifying Web sites against these requirements.

- Under the Software Assurance programme, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage.
- Expression Web shares a common project file format with Visual Studio, which enables designers using Expression Web and developers using Visual Studio to open and edit the same projects.
- CSS design tools allow direct manipulation of positioning, sizing, margins, and padding. CSS styles developed on the page can be migrated to a central repository.
- Typing aids and IntelliSense in the Code View increase the speed and efficiency of the process.
- XML files can be dragged and dropped and then immediately rendered by an XSL style sheet so that they can be reformatted to match a Web site's style.
