Description: 

UltraKey systematically teaches touch typing and safe keyboarding using voice, 3D animation, video, and virtual reality. It provides many options that adapt to a broad range of age groups and special needs. Though the interface and exercises are in English, students can hear the spoken instructions in Spanish, if desired. This feature requires a Spanish-language text-to-speech (TTS) engine, which must be purchased independently.

This donation is for five single-station standalone licences. Organisations can buy more licences directly from Bytes of Learning.

Trial Version: A trial version of UltraKey 5.0 is available online. The trial version is the full product with a time-limited licence. A licence received through PNGO Programme will unlock it for permanent use with no need to reinstall. Features: 
  • Not game-based: motivates with praise as challenge levels are reached

  • Typing analysis at the character level and standardized typing measurement
  • Voice-accompanied instruction for young children, students with ADD, and students who are visually impaired (Spanish voice instruction is available to assist typing in English. The computer must be equipped with a Spanish-language text-to-speech engine, which must be purchased independently.)

Software for Windows:

  • Windows 98 Second Edition; Windows NT; Windows 2000; Windows XP Home, Professional
  • Microsoft Speech Engine 5 (SAPI 5.0). Most new Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers shipped with the speech engine installed. If you already have the speech engine, you can download and install different voices with the Microsoft Voices Installer on the Bytes of Learning Extra Downloads page.
  • To use the Spanish-language voice instruction — a Spanish-language text-to-speech (TTS) engine. UltraKey does not supply one, but they are available from various third-party vendors. Several are specified on the Microsoft Web site.
  • QuickTime 3 or later

  • Mac OS X, v10.2 or later (Note: Mac OS X already includes a speech engine.)
