This device client access license (CAL) permits one device (such as a computer or mobile phone — used by any user) to access all the services and technologies of Essential Business Server 2008 Premium Edition, Microsoft's bundle of enterprise-level server applications and services for 300 users or fewer.

Device CALs are most effective when several employees use the same device to access the server, such as for rotating shifts in a call center. User CALs are also available. With user CALs, licensed users can access the server from any device.

This premium CAL is required only if a device needs access to the applications exclusive to Essential Business Server 2008 Premium Edition that optionally run on an additional database server; otherwise, a nonpremium Essential Business Server CAL may be used.

This CAL can also be used to access instances of Exchange Server 2007, SQL Server 2008, or any other Windows servers within the Essential Business Server 2008 domain.
