Windows 7 Enterprise Upgrade 64-Bit (Includes Software Assurance)

Description:

Windows 7 Enterprise is the enterprise-level version of the latest Microsoft operating system. It works best when used in an enterprise environment along with Windows Server 2008 R2. Its enterprise-specific enhancements include simplified remote network access and management, improved virtualization, expanded search capabilities, and better security. This 64-bit version operates on a computer with a 64-bit processor and 64-bit drivers.

This is an upgrade product. To install this operating system, you must have a licenced installation of one of the following operating systems on the device where you are installing the upgrade: Windows Vista Enterprise, Business, or Ultimate; Windows XP Professional or Tablet PC; Windows 2000 Professional; Windows NT Workstation 4.0; or Windows 98. You cannot upgrade from the Home editions of Windows XP or Windows Vista. Unless you are upgrading from Windows Vista, this installation requires a "clean install." This means that if the computer has an existing operating system, you must remove all operating system files and applications, install the system, and then copy back the files and reinstall the applications. For complete information, see *TechSoup's Windows 7 Upgrade Steps and Checklist.

Windows 7 Enterprise requires significant system resources, as detailed below. It is likely that PCs currently running an operating system older than Windows Vista might not be able to run Windows 7. For a good start on evaluating whether to upgrade, see *TechSoup’s Should You Upgrade to Windows 7?.

* Please note: Eligible UK Registered Charities and Charitable Housing Associations must place their donation requests via CTX, not TechSoup Stock.

Important Volume Licencing Information:

System Center Configuration Manager User Client Management License (Includes Software Assurance)

Description:

This client management licence (ML) allows any number of nonserver operating system environments (OSEs) to be managed by System Center Configuration Manager 2007 as long as only one user has access to them. If more than one user has access to a certain OSE or set of OSEs, then an ML is necessary for each user.

OSE MLs are also available. An OSE ML allows one nonserver device to be managed by System Center Configuration Manager 2007. When a device has multiple OSEs, a separate ML is required for each OSE managed by Configuration Manager.

Standard and enterprise server MLs are also available. A server ML is required for each server (that is, each device running a server operating system) managed by Configuration Manager. The standard ML allows for management of basic server operating system workloads, while the enterprise ML is necessary for management of server applications and other premium workloads.

All server MLs are licenced per OSE. In other words, if a server is running multiple OSEs, one ML is necessary for each OSE managed by Configuration Manager. For more information about licensing Configuration Manager, see System Center Licensing (PDF) from Microsoft.

Note: This licence does not require media. Instructions for obtaining the licence will be sent to your organisation email address after your eligibility has been verified and your administrative fee has been received.

Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition (Includes Software Assurance)

Description:

Office Communications Server 2007 facilitates, unifies, and moderates real-time communication by a variety of methods. Office Communications Server supports instant messaging (IM), presence information, Web conferencing, and telephony, all utilizing pre-existing software and technology in an office environment.

This offering is the standard edition, which runs on a single server and can support up to 5000 users. The enterprise edition, also available from TechSoup Stock, can be distributed among multiple servers and support unlimited users.

Office Communications Server can serve as a hub for all live communications within an organization and with people outside the organization. Users connected to Office Communications Server can participate in IM and voice conversations and share Office documents. Meetings can be requested and launched through a special menu in Outlook or through a Web interface.

Office Communications Server's IM functionality works with Office Communicator and Microsoft Live Meeting. Additionally, it provides access through a Web-based interface and most popular IM clients, allowing constituents and associates outside of the office to communicate conveniently. When a third user is invited to a conversation, the IM Conferencing Server relays messages among participants regardless of what IM clients the participants are using. The transition to a multiple-user conference is automatic with no cosmetic changes.

Office Communications Server can manage both voice over IP (VoIP) and traditional (PSTN) telephony. Participants may use any combination of physical phones and Office Communicator's voice interface. By adhering to industry telephony standards, Office Communications Server can work within the confines of an organization's existing telephone and PBX systems.

Through close integration with other Microsoft Office products, Office Communications Server supports multiple venues for collaboration and application-sharing. PowerPoint presentations can be utilized and distributed within a Web conference and Office documents can be edited in real time by local and remote participants.

Office Communications Server also accommodates live audio and video conferencing among multiple users. Office Communications Server is compatible with Microsoft RoundTable or any device adherent to RTP or RTCP protocols.

The R2 release adds desktop sharing capabilities, on-premise audio conferencing, and extended Communicator Mobile functionality for remote and mobile users.

Licence Requirements: This product includes only the licence for a server running Office Communications Server. Each user or device that accesses the IM or presence capabilities of Office Communications Server must have an Office Communications Server standard user or device client access licence (CAL) or be covered by a standard external connector (EC) licence.

In addition to the standard CAL or EC licence, each user or device that accesses the web conferencing, telephony, and application sharing capabilities must have an Office Communications Server enterprise user or device CAL or be covered by an enterprise EC licence.

Acquiring the License Key and Installation Media: Installing this product requires a licence key and installation media. Within 14 days of placing your order, instructions for obtaining the licence key will be sent to your organisation's registered e-mail address and free installation media will be delivered to your organisation's registered address.

Features:
  • Under the Software Assurance programme, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage.
  • Office Communications Server is incorporated into the interfaces of preexisting Office products, including Outlook, Communicator, and Live Meeting.
  • Remote users can access communications solutions without first logging into a virtual private network (VPN).
  • The IM conferencing server is compatible with all major IM systems, allowing clients and associates to communicate with employees without installing new software.
  • Encrypted communication protects sensitive information without limiting software functionality.
