The Charity Commission registers and regulates charities in England and Wales. The Commission offer advice and provides a wide range of services and guidance to help charities run as effectively as possible. The Commission also keeps an online Register of Charities, which provides information about each of the thousands of registered charities in England and Wales.


The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) is the independent regulator and registrar for Scottish charities, including community groups, religious charities, schools, universities, grant-giving charities and major care providers. OSCR also keeps an online Register of Charities, which provides information about each of the registered charities in Scotland.

The Commission’s aim is to make sure all charities meet all their legal requirements and to work with charity trustees to put things right if they go wrong. The Commission is working towards a registration process for charities in Northern Ireland.

The Financial Services Authority is an independent organisation responsible for regulating financial services in the UK. The FSA Register is a public record of all the firms, individuals and other bodies regulated by the FSA.

Provides information for charities and CASCs about Gift Aid, Payroll Giving, tax reliefs, VAT, how to complete a Company or Self Assessment tax return, and forms that can be downloaded.
