Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 protects networked laptops, desktops, and servers ("endpoints") against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, adware, rootkits, and threats not seen before ("zero-day attacks"). It consists of client software that runs on the endpoints and management software that runs on a server. This product is most suitable for organisations with 100 or more endpoints.

Symantec Endpoint Protection combines several Symantec technologies:

Antivirus and Antispyware: scans for both viruses and security risks
Desktop Firewall: prevents unauthorized users from accessing the computers and the networks that connect to the Internet
Intrusion Prevention: acts as the endpoint's second layer of defense after the firewall
Proactive Threat Scanning: analyzes the behavior of an application or process to determine if it exhibits characteristics of threats
Device Control: blocks or allows access from devices, such as USB, infrared, FireWire, SCSI, serial ports, and parallel ports
Application Control: blocks or allows applications that try to access system resources
The management software uses a single console to manage all the endpoints in an organization. Software and policy updates can be sent to all the organisation's computers and servers, and their activities and statuses can be monitored centrally. Reports are available in web-based graphical form.

Rather than having several "agents" installed for the various functions, Endpoint Protection uses a single agent for all of them and thus uses less memory and disk space on each endpoint.

New in Version 12.1
Version 12.1 adds support for Mac OS X, Linux, and virtual-environment endpoints. New Insight technology identifies rapidly mutating threats and also speeds up scans by examining only files at risk. Proactive threat scanning now uses SONAR 3 technology.

This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.


NFR Version: The version of this product available through CTX PROGRAMME is the Not for Resale (NFR) version. NFR products cannot be upgraded to new releases. Organizations seeking new releases should request new donations through CTX PROGRAMME. In addition, NFR products do not include telephone assistance with product issues or add-ons; however, free online technical support is available at Symantec's website through its knowledge bases and discussion forums.


Installation File and License: When your donation request has been approved, CTX PROGRAMME will send an email to your organization email address containing download instructions. Symantec will send a second email within 7 to 10 days with a certificate valid for a user license and the serial number needed for downloading.
